Parking Pay zones at the University of Iceland

Rate: 230 ISK / h
Functionality for guests: You pay parking fees by checking in and out of the pay zone in the Parka app, or by paying for your stay on the payment website or at a payment kiosk.
Subscription plan Hí and Parka
Subscription is available for students and staff of the University of Iceland. By registering for a subscription, you pay a monthly fee and gain access to spaces in parking zone H2. You can sign up for the subscription in the Parka app.

Cameras handle entry and exit from the zone H2; you don’t need to do anything in the app or at a payment kiosk if you are registered for a subscription.
Pay by the hour
The HÍ/Parka subscription plan does not apply in parking zone H1. Full payment is required for your stay by checking in and out through the app, or by paying for your stay on the payment website or at a payment kiosk.
Note: A subscription does not guarantee the availability of a parking space.
Pay zone surveillance
The parking lot has parking fees. Surveillance is performed using License Plate Recognition (LPR).
The parking fee increases by ISK 1.960 if payment is not made for the stay, and a payment claim will be sent to the vehicle owner.
Parking is free for the first 15 minutes; after that, the full fee applies from the first minute.

Subscriptions
Who can purchase a subscription?
Current University of Iceland staff and students can buy a monthly subscription in the Parka app for ISK 1,500 per month.
Where is the subscription valid?
Only in long-term parking areas (H2). It is not valid in short-term areas (H1).
At the outer parking areas on the Landspítali premises.
Please note, however, that there is always a fee in the red-marked priority spaces located closest to the hospital buildings, such as by the Children’s Hospital and the Women’s Clinic. These spaces are intended to ensure that patients and their relatives can park as near as possible to the relevant departments.

Do I need to do anything when parking after registering?
No. Once your subscription is active, the system automatically checks you in and out when parking in H2 spaces. Just remember to use the Parka app to pay in other locations where your subscription does not apply.
Can I register more than one car?
Yes, only one license plate can be active at a time. New plates are added in the Parka app, and under the subscription section you select which car should be active at any given time.
Can I buy more than one subscription?
No, subscriptions are tied to the individual user.
How does the subscription renew?
It renews automatically every month from the sign-up date. Authentication through Ugla is done each month when it renews; if you are no longer staff or a student, the subscription will not renew.
How do I cancel my subscription?
You can cancel in the Parka app. If your employment or studies end, your subscription will be automatically removed from Ugla.
Guests (Non-Subscribers)
How do I pay for parking?
Parka app – Select the zone, enter your license plate, and start payment.
Payment kiosks – Located in most University of Iceland buildings. You can choose a set period (e.g., two hours) and pay in advance, so you don’t have to return to the kiosk during your stay.
Parka website – Enter your license plate, choose the time, and select your payment method.
Do I need to check out when leaving?
Yes – unless you have paid in advance for a fixed period. Otherwise, the timer continues until you check out, which could result in being charged for longer than your actual stay.

Short-term parking: All users pay ISK 230/hour.
Long-term parking: Free for subscribers, ISK 230/hour for others.
Hourly-paying guests can park in both H1 and H2.
Keyrt og kvitt (Pay per plate)
This feature does not work in University of Iceland parking areas. Payment must be made manually via the Parka app, website, or at a payment kiosk. LPR cameras are for monitoring only – there is no automatic check-in/out for non-subscribers.
15-Minute Free Period
If you enter and exit within 15 minutes (for example, if no spaces are available), no charge will be applied.
What happens if I don’t pay?
If a vehicle is parked without payment, the owner will automatically receive an invoice in their online bank for the time parked according to the hourly rate, plus a late payment fee of ISK 1.960.
Privacy
No personally identifiable vehicle information is stored. Vehicle owner details are only accessed if a vehicle leaves the area without paying.
Instructions for subscribing in the Parka app
How to subscribe to long-term University of Iceland parking spaces via the Parka app:

Open the Parka app.

There are two ways to access the subscription registration.
A
Select Reykjavík – Street Parking and swipe left until you find University of Iceland – Zone 1071 (the fifth option).
B
Select the sidebar icon in the top-right corner, then select the University banner at the bottom of the menu.

Tap Manage subscription to start the sign-up process. (If the option is not available please either close and open the app or update the app to the newest version.)

The system will ask you to confirm that you are a University of Iceland staff member or student. Tap Go to Ugla and enter your HÍ email address.

A confirmation email will be sent to your HÍ email. Click the link in the email to complete your verification.

If approved, you will see the available subscription options (in this case, only one). Select your plan.

Enter your payment details and license plate number if you are new to Parka.
